Who is Dorothy Nell?
A baby boomer, I understand the need to make and mend with anything to hand. When my children were young, I used to make clothes, toys and gifts for them.
The name Dorothy Nell comes from my parents, my mother was called Dorothy and my mother-in-law, Nellie. They, too, were skilled at sewing and knitting. These skills have been passed on to me and I have used them to great effect throughout my life.
I was associated with a theatre group for over 20 years where I not only acted and directed, but I was also involved in costume design and sewing the costumes for the various productions, including over 200 dresses for the Phantom of the Opera!
Where I can, I use British materials and recycle quality materials when they are available. Sometimes this results in one-off unique items, and these are clearly itemised in their description.
At Dorothy Nell, I have introduced a series of felt toys, aprons for all and forever bags for adults and children. Knowing how children want to copy their parents, each apron or bag has both adult and child versions so that they might be like mum or dad! I hope you enjoy!
Dorothy Nell produces beautiful hand crafted pieces for all.
They can be standard items, such as our beautiful felt gifts, or classic aprons, or they can be bespoke commissions. Do you want a special, personalised gift? Dorothy Nell will try to prepare it for you.
